- Slow pace in music-organ sound can be heard, highlighting religious connotations as such instrument is symbolic of Christianity (churches)
- Contains some element of love story e.g. when a male character kisses his wife.
- Mainly consists of long takes, giving it a realistic feel, long shots and medium shots, allowing the audience to see their body language/ emotions.
- Mise-en scene of protagonist male character consists of hairy chest, long black coat and pale skin contrasting his red lips. This leads the audience to straight away convey that he represents masculinity, echoing the convention of horror movies. In addition to this, it’s obvious that such character is a vampire, again echoing the conventional supernatural themes which were apparent during earlier time frame of horror films.
- On the opposite end of the spectrum, the female character is presented to be very famine e.g. playing with the cat and her doing the house chores (watering flowers), however like a conventional woman when she see’s her husband she puts everything aside and welcome him in a romantic way (runs up to him, hugs and kisses him). This in a sense creates voyeurism as we the audience know we shouldn’t be watching, but can’t help but to peak. This connotes the norm of a typical family –shown when the husband brings flowers home for his wife, giving it a romantic feel.
- Ironically when the husband brings her the flower she argues ‘Why did you kill them’ again bring death into the picture- also makes the audience question the normality of both characters as no-one in the real world says something like this.
- The male protagonist holding piece of paper- close up used, which allows its audience to see such movie is on the darker side, as shown by witchcraft symbols- indicating black magic.
